One of the most important things to getting your pinup look right is pinup hair. There are lots of different how-to’s out there for different hairstyles and lengths. I myself am growing my hair out, and honestly using curling irons and hot sticks and all the “hair stuff” is kinda new to me. I have either had super short (I’m talking pixie short) or a stacked bob my whole life, so until the past year or so I didn’t do anything different with my hair. I’m learning too! Here are a few videos from my YouTube channel I find to be the most helpful. I have lots of other videos too so be sure to head over and subscribe to my channel for all things pinup and rockabilly there too.
Bianca Bombshell’s Marilyn hair NO HEAT tutorial– this one is for if you have foam roller sticks and long hair. I like this one (even though my hair is not as long as hers) because it does not require heat and you can buy foam rollers at the dollar store. The only drawback is that is an overnight set so you will have to sleep on the roller sticks.
Kandy K – short pinup hair tutorial – her hair is more the length of my hair so I really like this one. She also uses a flat iron to make the curls rather than a curling iron.
Rosie the Riveter Hair with Cherry Dollface – this is the classic Rosie hair with a bandanna that anyone can do no matter how long or short their hair is. Her hair is longer but you CAN do this even with alot shorter hair.
Faux Bumper Bang with Cherry Dollface – this is for longer hair and is definitely a little more challenging. It is pretty a traditional retro style but she really walks you through and helps you out with a “cheat” – a “hair rat”.
Retro Vintage Pin Curls with a Clipless Curling Iron – this uses a clipless iron but can still be done even if you don’t have a clipless iron. This is also an overnight set. The end look is very much like the first one I showed from Bianca Bombshell – its just another way to get there. She has styled hers to be a little more of a cascading ‘do.
